As part of my teaching method, I see to it that all of my students succeed in putting any song we start into a state I call “performance ready" — a crucial step in setting good standards for learning to play songs in their entirety. As each student accumulates more songs in his/her repertoire, I conduct "dress rehearsals" (playing a selection of those songs with them as if we were performing for an audience) before having them perform live at one of my annual recitals.

Performing live, especially with other musicians, is invaluable in helping a student of the guitar to build greater confidence, musicianship, and playmanship. So as my students become more experienced, I put them in touch with a network of other players in their age groups — some of whom have their own bands or are looking to form one, and others who just want playing partners.
